"I believe that one and one make two" Alanis
2009-11-17, 9:56 p.m.

I thought this was an interesting video- I'm usually a proponent of art, but so many people are just plain stupid. They can't tell the difference between art and fantasy, and real life. When fantasy starts spilling over into what goes on in real life due to misrepresentation, such as those seen in music videos and magazines (see video above), we've got a problem. In extreme form it takes shape in rape, "not rape" (see a few posts ago), sexual harassment, self deprecation and debasement about body size/shape/color, and physical assault. In less extreme form it becomes a stay at home mom with no career but who desperately wants one. She finds herself 10 years later, post kids, not being able to have a career if she wants because she no longer has relevant experience, unless of course she wants to be a fry cook (so sick of those damn house cleaning commercials that shows nothing but moms- dads buy garbage bags. I venture to say dads and kids are mostly responsible for taking out the garbage. Also, I along with my single male friends have to buy laundry detergent, I'm not a mother, nor are my single male friends). It takes form as men thinking they can get mad at a girl and call her a bitch because she's decided she wants out of whatever relationship, because she's ready to move on. We don't have to wait for a street riot where girls are doused and sexually assaulted to pull out examples of how sexualization of women is a serious problem.
