"Back the beats it dont reflect on how many records get sold, on sex drugs and rock and roll, whether your projects put on hold in the real workd, these just people with ideas" Dead Prez
2009-09-29, 10:23 p.m.

So today I'm making a list of meaningful hip hop music because my sister tried to convince me that Ive got old lady stereotypes against hip hop. I just think the majority of hip hop is shit, and so I'm super selective about the kind that I listen to. I like old hip hop from the 90's and hip hop with meaningful lyrics, typically political hip hop that gets back to the root of the movement, instead of the porno shit that they seem to be producing in large numbers these days(even though I admit I'm a sucka for a good beat). Today I'm focusing this meaningful hip hop music on people that align with the Palestinian cause, because guess who's fucking visiting the Tulane campus on the 13th.
Ehud Olmert. I can't believe any organization had the galls to bring such a sick, lying bastard to speak. How does the 'honorarium' work in this case? How do you honor a murderer and liar (not only in politics, but to his OWN people??)

Anyways, NOLAPs is having a organizing meeting in response to this talk on the 4th so I will be attending that and I'll keep everyone updated.

Review of some meaningful hip hop, the way it's meant to be:

Invincible's "People Not Places"

DAM:
"Born Here"

The documentary Slingshot Hip Hop is AMAZING

and of course Dead Prez's take on Gaza. Gotta love progressive musicians

Ron's this one's for you

Dead Prez- "Hip Hop"

"(chorus)(x2) its bigger than hip hop hip hop hip hop hip hop

One thing bout music when it hit you feel no pain
White folkes say it controls
your brain
I know betta than that thats game
And we ready for dat two souldjas head of da pack
Madda a fack who got the gat
And where ma army at rather atact and not react
Back the beats it dont reflect on how many records get sold
On sex drugs and rock and roll
Whether your projects put on hold
In the real world, these just people wit ideas
They just like me and you when the smoke and camera disapear
Again the real world
Is bigger than all these fake records
Where po folks got the millions and my womans disrespected
If you check 1 2 my word of advise to you is just relax
Just do what you got to do if that dont work then kick the facks
If you a fighta rida bouta flaymadonna chronic sida
Or you wanna just get high then just say it
But then if you a lia lia pants on fia wolf cria agent wida
Why im goina know it when i play it

(chorus)(x2) its bigger than hip hop hip hop hip hop hip hop

Who shot biggy smalls if we dont get them they gonna get us all
Im down for runnin on them (blured) in they city hall
We ride for yall all ma dawgs stay real
Dont thank these record deals goina feed your seeds and pay your bills
Because they not
Mcs get a little bit of love and think they hot
Talkin bout how much money they got
All yall recods sound the same
Im sick of that fake thug r&b rap scenerio all day on the radio
Same scenes in the video, manatamis material
Yall dont hear me tho
These record lables slang our tapes like dope
You could be next in line to sign and still be writin rymes and broke
Youd rather have a lexus or justice
A dream or some substance
A beemer or neclace or freedom
Niggaz like me dont playa hate i just stay awake
Its real hip hop, and it dont stop till we get the po po off the block

(chorus)(x2) its bigger than hip hop hip hop hip hop hip hop
