"Mary cried 'they're crazy, the world is changing too fast' it was then she discovered that her faith couldn't last" Styx

I really loved this article today in the Washington Post. 'Recession hitting Ohio's former steel towns hard'.
And I just happened to read that right after reading this article on politifact.com.
It seems like at this point an unemployment rate is pointless- rather we should be questioning what sorts of jobs are growing, which are closing. You can trade in factory jobs for wal-mart jobs and you'd have more job opportunities, but Wal-mart does not provide living wages to it's employees . . . particularly if you're female, and even more so if you're a female of color. It's certainly not a solid union job.
Anyways, a good follow up for those of you who have time would be Empire Falls. Really great book about a town left for dead when a major factory closes down. I hear the book was also made into a miniseries with philip-seymore hoffman (sp?) and Helen Hunt, but the book was pretty amazing and no substitute needed.
Much love.
