I believe people inherently want to do the right thing, that people are inherently good. But we are only inherently good because we are all inherently wired to maximize survival/fitness. Avoiding friction and maintaining what we would term a "good" life ultimately ensures avoidance of chronic stress situations and stable positive reinforcement. Selflessness for the purpose of selfishness. Does that make me a cynic, or just a realist?
